A Canadian public health study found a gradual increase in cannabis use among high school students from Grade 9 through 12 following the start of cannabis legalization in the 2016-2017 school year. There was also a nine percent drop in high school students who reported using cannabis at least 10 times in the last 30 days. In the second quarter of 2019, the agency reported 25.5 percent of those aged 15 to 24 used cannabis in the past three months. Students trying cannabis dropped from 38 percent in 2001 to 23 percent in 2012, the New Zealand study shows. The percentage of students with a weekly cannabis habit decreased from about six percent in 2001 to 3.1 percent in 2012.
