Summary

Santa Cruz, Calif. may be about to get a lot more colourful. The Santa Cruz City Council unanimously voted to pass a resolution this week that would send psychedelic drugs — such as psilocybin mushrooms and ayahuasca — to the bottom of local law enforcement’s list of priorities and, effectively, decriminalize the drugs. Oakland, Calif. and Denver, Colo. have decriminalized adult possession and consumption of the drugs. The move makes Santa Cruz the third American city to adopt a resolution to effectively decriminalize psychedelics, which some assert have been effective in treating illnesses such as depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
