A new report is offering insight into the impact cannabis legalization has had on the state of Colorado. State cannabis tax revenues have also, predictably, enjoyed a massive upswing since 2014. Similarly, in 2015 approximately $33 million in cannabis tax revenue was allocated to a school construction fund, versus $120 million in 2020. In 2012, two years before the state legalized cannabis, there were 684 DUIs for cannabis, whether alone or in combination with other substances. Adult consumption of the drug is on an upswing since legalization came into force, according to the report.

Colorado was one of the first states in the U.S. to legalize the drug. Legal sales kicked off seven years ago in January 2014 courtesy of Amendment 64, which appeared on the 2012 ballot in Colorado after a previous attempt in 2006 that was defeated.
