A father and son have received matching five-year prison sentences for their parts in running a multimillion-dollar illegal cannabis business in Washington State. The cannabis scheme was discovered after the son got on law enforcement’s radar for suspected money laundering activity back in 2018. The 28-year-old son was sentenced to five years in prison for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana and laundering monetary instruments, while his 47-year-old father will spend the same amount of time in prison for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana. And in December of 2020, a 56-year-old woman and her son were sentenced to nine months and 14 months, respectively, after getting nicked for having $10,200 worth of weed in their home. An undercover operation was launched in which an agent met with the son, primarily in different Starbucks coffee shops, to discuss laundering funds related to human trafficking.
