A Florida high school teacher has been fired for using medical cannabis, reports the Associated Press. Enright’s medical cannabis use came to light after she suffered a workplace injury and was required to take a drug test. According to school board general counsel Paul Gibbs, the school district cannot employ teachers who use medical cannabis due to federal regulations that still classify cannabis as a Schedule I controlled substance. Despite the state legalizing medical cannabis five years ago, the Brevard County School Board voted 3-2 to terminate Allison Enright from her position at Space Coast Junior/Senior High School. Allowing teachers to consume cannabis would prevent the school district from receiving some federal grants, Gibbs explained.
