Summary

Six in 10 people recently surveyed in the U.S. say they favour legalizing cannabis, making it the most pressing national policy issue from a list of options. For that group, just 38 per cent of respondents favour legalizing recreational cannabis compared to 62 per cent who oppose it. While there are many factors that might come into play, Biden’s not quite full support of legalizing cannabis at the federal level may be a contributor. Add to those results that citizens of four states voted during last year’s election to move forward with legalization adult-use cannabis. In that survey, 68 per cent of respondents note they support cannabis legalization, up slightly from 66 per cent in 2019 and the 64 per cent to 66 per cent seen between 2017 and 2019.
