A bill to legalize marijuana has been passed by another Minnesota House committee, but only after members agreed to a big change that would change many parts of the bill. This bill is a new version of a bill that the House passed in 2021. In some ways, though, the House amendment is different from the one that was passed by a Senate committee last week. The substitute was also made so that the bill’s grant programs would give priority to small cannabis businesses. The House Taxes Committee is the next stop for the bill.

Monday, the measure was passed by voice vote in the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee. The panel, which was led by the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Zack Stephenson (D), took up the proposal for the first time in January, but it was always the plan to bring it back.
