New Jersey Marijuana Legalization Amendment New Jersey is one of those states looking to introduce adult use through a referendum on election day. Passing adult-use laws is one way to recoup much of these losses all at once. Both state governors have been pushing for adult-use legalization, and together with New Jersey and Connecticut have been working together to come up with a regional alliance. If it passes, New Jersey Public Question 1, Marijuana Legalization Amendment would amend the state’s constitution to permit the consumption of marijuana by persons age 21 and older starting on January 1, 2021. On November 3, so much will be decided.
In addition to the direction the US will take with the presidential election, legislators both federally and state level will also shift the balance of rulemaking. Once federal legislators are in place, potential federal laws relating to cannabis may move towards passing banking and other industry friendlier laws. On the state side, tagging along for the election ride, are five states voting on referendums as to whether they will adopt new marijuana-related laws.
