Police initially reported that the officer retrieving the bag had approached the van, which struck him before fleeing the scene. Although the driver initially exited the vehicle for the search, he later returned and sped away while the officer hung on. The vehicle initially got away, but police received a report a short time later of two men running from an abandoned van into nearby fields. In the latest press statement, the police report the officer who was dragged sustained serious injuries to his shoulder and wrist. This is not the first time that a U.K. officer was left hanging onto a vehicle for dear life.
A U.K. police constable who was among the officers responding to a report that a backpack full of cannabis had been left on a city street suffered serious injuries when he was dragged by a fleeing vehicle.
