Guyana’s Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) recently made a big bust when it found three men, including two cousins, and their 717 kilograms of cannabis. Just months before that, two U.K. brothers were each sentenced to 11 years in prison for conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis in January 2021. Their search of the building revealed parcels of suspected cannabis, which later tested positive, weighing 717 kilograms, notes a Facebook post by CANU. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $474,000. The person would also be liable for “not less than three years nor more than five years” in prison.

CANU’s Special Operations Team, aided by the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard, were carrying out a joint operation in De Veldt when they came upon a building occupied by several individuals, including minors.
