A 33-year-old man from Waterloo, Iowa was sentenced to probation for five years and ordered to pay $1,290 after being found with cannabis and multiple firearms. The potential sentence for a 23-year-old Iowa woman who posted snaps of her holding a weed blunt and speaking about cannabis could prove more severe. Still in Iowa, the mayor of Jamaica, along with her husband, were sentenced to two years of probation in 2019 after a search of their home revealed 18 homegrown cannabis plants. Earlier this year, it took less than two hours for a jury to find the woman guilty of possessing firearms while being a cannabis user. Possession with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or less of cannabis, however, is a felony that carries a maximum of five years in prison and a $9,675 fine upon conviction, NORML reports.

The sentence follows a jury verdict this past March in which the man was found guilty of one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, notes a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa.
