Woody Harrelson has long advocated for cannabis reform and for his work will be honoured at the upcoming 18th Annual Emerald Cup Awards in Los Angeles. This year, organizers report, the Emerald Cup has attracted more than 700 entries across dozens of consumption-based categories. As it stands in California, where Harrelson is located, a person needs a cultivation licence to grow and sell cannabis. The event brings together cannabis entrepreneurs, cultivators, scientists, developers, entertainers and enthusiasts to celebrate the plant and related community, business and industry. The Woods, the actor’s West Hollywood-based cannabis retail dispensary and lounge, is set to open soon.

Citing “decades of fearless advocacy on behalf of cannabis culture, veganism and a healthy questioning of the status quo,” the three-time Oscar nominee will be awarded the 2022 “Willie Nelson” Award, the Emerald Cup’s version of a lifetime achievement award.
The honour will be presented at the Ricardo Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood on May 14 as part of the private event.
